Bow Valley Buccaneers† - Bucs Bounty - Season 6 Issue 1: BV Season Preview
The Bucs have survived to live another day in League II.1. After a convincing relegation round and a nice long training camp, Our Bucs are ready to start season 6 of PPM. Not much has changed in the offseason for the Bucs, besides the large renovation that is ongoing until January 4th for Bow Gardens. Manager oldtimehockey4 believes in the team he has, and feels with another year of experience in league II.1 our boys can fight for a playoff spot.
This article is going to introduce our Bow Valley Buccaneers for the Season 6 season. First off is the forwards.
Forwards:
Once again our line-up is going to be lead by 20 year old Polack Wielisław Cheda. In 75 games with BV he has scored 53 points, and is well known for his late game winning goals. On the first line with Cheda will be second year forward Tristan Longworth and veteran Martin Allison, and should be the best line Bow Valley has ever put to the ice.
New faces to the Bucs will lead the second line. PPM stars Matthew Kennedy and Maurice Ebbrell came over to Bow Valley from the Guelph Gryphons to attempt to resurrect their careers, and after a strong post-season, they look to both have very strong seasons for the Bucs, and their play will be key for the Bucs to make the playoffs.
Other key forwards are 16 year old wunderkin Carlos Bolduc, and third year forwards William Augustus and Tony Kwan. All three are going to have to play strong on the third and fourth lines for Bow Valley to have enough depth to survive this season.
Defence:
As it has been every season for Bow Valley, our defense is our weak link. We will start off today for the first time ever without our veteran leader Richard Davies, as he is injured for another 7 days with an ankle fracture, but expect to see him quarterbacking the number one line when he comes back with Cannon Oatway. Oatway has all the potential to be an allstar in this league, but has just not shown it yet for Bow Valley. A breakout season for him will be key to a strong season for the Bucs.
Other key defensemen are Sidney Everest and Xavier Godbout. Godbout will start on the first line until Davies is back from injury, and should florish in this role, as he is now entering his third season in PPM and is ready for a bigger role. Everest on the other hand will have his Bow Valley Buccaneers debut today. He has played in the post-season placement games and friendlies throughout last season, but management believe this 96% bundled AvQ defensemen is ready for the big time, and big things are expected of him in the future.
Goalies:
Stephen "The Beagle" Darwin has the number one spot locked up... for now. With 17 year old Kristopher Massett starting the season as the number 3 goalie yet again, fans are starting to wonder when this stud teenager will get his shot on the team, and with Darwin's lack of focus in training starting to show, we may see Massett leap-frog both Darwin and perennial back-up Janez Grašič by seasons end.
Prediction: Many players need a bounce back year after scoring a league 18th best 118 goals last season. If we can find our scoring touch from 2 seasons ago in league III.2, where our Bucs scored 250 goals, we will see the Bucs in the 8th-10th position by seasons end. But if scoring woes continue, we will be in for another long season in Bow Valley, and relegation may be a possibility yet again.
