Omaha Blizzard† - II.V Playoff Preview (Season 15)
The II.V playoffs appear to be one of the most competitive post seasons since the Blizzard have been in the league. Top to bottom the top 8 teams are quite even.
Before the season began many of the coaches in the league thought Wiggly Pigs would be a top team in the league and they were, they enter the tournament as the #1 seed.
The Blizzard were able to lock up the #5 seed, seated comfortably between #4 and #6 in terms of points.
It will be very interesting to see how things shape up. The round one matchups are as follows:
#1 Wiggly Pigs v #8 Rochester Americans -
The regular season series went 2-0 in favor of the Pigs by a total score of (6-2). Both teams enter the tournament playing some good hockey, going 9-1 (Pigs) and 8-2 (Amer.). Wiggly Pigs' roster features the #1 goal scorer in the league and 5 of the top 10 total point scorers in the league and the #4 goalie in save %. The Americans have the #4 goal scorer in the league so they will need a little help to overcome the offensive juggernaut.
#2 Boston Bruins All-Stars v #7 Bombsville Atomics -
In their first season in II.4 the Atomics make it into the top 8 and secure a playoff spot but they will have their work cut out for them against the BBA-S. The regular season was a split, 1-1 with a score of (2-4) in favor of the Atomics. The BBA-S are loaded with the #3,6 and 7 top goal scorers in the league as well as 3 of the top 10 total point scorers in the league. They also feature the #2 goalie in terms of save %. The Atomics will have to have some lights out play to keep the BBA-S in check and win the series. Both teams enter the tournament playing well in their last ten, with a 8-2 record.
#3 Butter Knives v #6 Detroit Slackers -
This could be one of the most evenly matched series of the first round. The regular season was split at one game a piece and a total score of (5-5). The Butter Knives feature the #5 goal scorer, 1 top 10 total points player as well as the #3 goalie in save %. The Slackers have the #5 goalie in save %. Both goalies will have to play solid between the pipes because both teams have weapons that can do some crazy things with the puck. Both teams enter the tournament finishing the regular season 7-3 in their last ten.
#4 Huntington Hitman v #5 Omaha Blizzard -
This should be another very evenly matched series as this series in the regular season was also split 1-1 with the total goals scored at (7-8) in favor of the Blizzard. Both squads enter the playoffs having gone 7-3 in their last ten games. The Huntington Hitman have the #2 goal scorer and only top 10 total point player from the team on their side and he will be doing everything he can to get the puck past the Blizzard's #1 goalie in save %. It will be an interesting matchup to see if the Blizz's goalie can keep up with the pucks being thrown at the net by the Hitman.
