The Black Dragon are very happy with the start to the season they are having. When the schedule was first released, many wondered how the first week would look facing the Sans Antonios Stars, Cougars de Montréal , and Nordique, all very good opponents, two of them in the top 8 last year and the other with a very strong finish. The Dragons did this with some good tactics, but mostly owe their 3 wins, and 0 goals against to surprise pick up at the last minute, goaltender Didzis Kaucēns. In this surprise move by gm JBrady, he picked up an elite but older goaltender on the eve to the start of the season. This has paid great dividends as Didzis Kaucēns has not allowed a goal on 65 shots through 3 games. In an interview with Didzis Kaucēns he says it is nice coming to a team that helps him out, makes good defensive plays and even shared a little quote from the old Mighty Ducks movies, that it's all about hunting goose eggs.
Up front the forwards have been scoring by committee, Henrich Hajšo, Dominik Schmid, and Robert Selan lead the team with 3 points each, but they have got timely scoring from everyone when needed. With a key injury to Franz Winkler, the big 3rd line right winger, will that line still be able to compete? Will they still be able to roll solid lines, or will there be a hiccup?
The Dragons have an easier looking week, but can take Sénateur d'Ottawa, and Wizzards-Qc lightly as since being taken over my new management, these teams have started to win, and once they get on a roll, who knows what it will take to stop them. They do have a huge test at the end of the week against the Winnipeg Warriors who have destroyed the first three teams they have faced by a combine score of 37-3, will the pressure to have a good game in front of the home fans against the top team in the league help or hinder the young Black Dragons squad? We will find out in a few days, until then, Go Dragons Go.
