Kanada Royal City Redshift - Royal City Spectra - V3E1: Local and New Arrival to II.4 Stun Redshift in Opener

It wasn't exactly the started the Redshift had hoped for. New arrivals to II.4, EloraTowers, located a short hike north from Guelph, strolled into Veterans Memorial Arena and stole three points, winning the game 5-3.

"It wasn't the outcome we had hoped" said veteran center Teodor Vaverka. "We were missing several key players who are participating in the final few days of a 2-week long training retreat. That being said, they were simply better tactically and wanted it more. We had lots of youngsters in the lineup and they need to understand how critical these early points are. We have the strongest team in the league if everyone is healthy, but that doesn't win championships. Winning does, and that's something we didn't do today."

Redshift fans who attended the game were treated to quite the spectacle. The sold out crowd of 6,400 were on hand to see the unveiling of Veterans Memorial Arena's upgrade plans. A massive display in the front lobby illustrated the plans to be completed before playoffs and then again in 2 seasons time.

Management plan to have the rink up to 14,000 capacity prior to playoffs and adding another 6,000 seats prior to the end of the following season.

"It is going to take a lot of money and sacrifice. We've lost some key players for financial reasons that have made this venture possible. It is very likely that more tough decisions will be made as we try to expand our facilities, arena and the Redshift brand. This is a tough business and tough decisions have to be made" said canucks357.

canucks357 would not comment on what players could be on the move next. Critics suspect management is looking at moving some more top talent. However, those who know the team well know that moving some elite players could be fatal to the team's success, as depth is starting to become an issue.

"We have lots of good youngsters coming up, but there is a gap between our a-list players and our long-term prospects. We certainly have to be careful. Anytime you make changes you can upset the ship. We plan on getting our youngsters into the lineup even more than last season, even at the expense of a few points here and there" said canucks357.

The Redshift will be icing a full squad on Wednesday when they face Ninjas Killers on the road. Game time, as always, is high-noon.
