Kanada Royal City Redshift - Royal City Spectra - V4E2: Redshift Downed 4-1 in International Debut

The Royal City Redshift made their international cup debut today in Spain playing the group favourites the Txuribeltz Raiders. While the effort was there, the Raiders were in their own class taking victory with a score of 4-1 and outshooting the Redshift 43-18.

"We knew it wasn't going to be easy but we got ourselves into penalty trouble early and they capitalized" said Captain Braden Debeau. "If we stayed out of the box it's a 1-1 game." The Raiders went 3/4 on the powerplay and the Redshift penalty kill couldn't find a way to shut them down.

"I felt good out there. It's never easy playing one day in Canada then boarding a trans-Atlantic flight and playing the next night. But that's the dream we live. We simply weren't the better team today. That's what it boils down to. But this is a marathon not a sprint. We get a game at home next week and it should be a lot of fun" said Tim Newton who was the third star of the game and easily the Redshift's greatest player stopping 39 of the 43 shots he faced.

"Newts (Tim Newton) was marvelous tonight. Then again, when isn't he? He's a model of consistency and is the single reason why we are in this competition in the first place. Who knows where we'll end up. It's tough to advance out of the group stage. But, you never know" said winger Fred Champman.

Tomorrow the Reds will face Sabertooth Tigers and attempt to rebound from their mini slump including the embarrassment that was the 8-2 loss on Wednesday. Management has vowed to provide a competitive lineup for league play so fans should expect some classic hockey once again in the new and improved Veterans Memorial Arena.

Attendance is anticipated to be higher tomorrow as fans clamour to see the upgraded stands stating "Redshift Hockey" in bold lettering. With rink upgrades nearing an end, the rink will surely become an icon of Guelph hockey.
