The Royal City Redshift are very pleased to announce the signing of Restricted Free Agent Tim Newton to a three year contract. As per league policy, Newton was eligible for (restricted) free agency at the end of his last contract. There were several bids but in the end his services were retained here in Guelph.

"We are thrilled to keep him within our organization. I'll be honest, I can't see the day without Tim on our roster. He's been a model player on and off the ice. I know the kids down at Tim's Tykes are thrilled he is sticking around" said canucks357.

"It was never about the money for me. I never wanted to leave so I'm glad things worked out as they did. Guelph has been my home for 10 years now. I have no intention of leaving anytime soon" said Newton.

This contract will keep him the highest paid Redshift player, at $3.5M/season, and see him on the roster until he becomes an Unrestricted Free Agent at the age of 29 when he is up for UFA-I.

There is always some concern when a player hits the free agent market that he may find his services being used elsewhere. Guy Richard is feeling that right now.

"Well I know the reality. I'm 29 years old and seeing limited action. Unless the offer received is small I doubt I'll be spending many more days here. I shouldn't speculate but that's the reality of it. I hope I'm wrong. I love this team, its fans and the city" said Richard on his way into the rink for morning skate prior to today's game against the rival Incredible Foes.

After today's game, arguably the toughest of league play thus far, the Redshift will board a private jet for Norway for tomorrow's Cup Winners' Cup game. The team is hoping to build off its close 2-1 victory in the second game of the tournament.
