Canadá Royal City Redshift - Gryph News - Vol 4 Issue 4: Gryphons Secure First Ever Birth in I.1 Playoff

The Guelph Gryphons rode a 29 save shutout performance by Ian Garnett en route to a 3-0 win over MaGoo HC today in front of a home crowd of over 2,500 supporters. The win gives the Gryphons 64 points on the season which is already 8 more points then last season and there are still 3 games left to play.

"We are pleased to have clinched and look forward to the challenge that lies ahead. We have three really tough games to close out the season so we did ourselves a huge favour by getting this locked up now to ease up the pressure the next few games. However, we want to still play hard. We are playing two potential first and second round playoff opponents and want to ensure we are working efficiently and get the confidence we need to succeed against those types of teams. We've beaten them before, we just need to beat them now when it counts" said captain Slater.

The Gryphons season has been full of ups and downs as well as lots of new faces coming in and old leaving. "We're slowly trying to change the guard here. We had a core group of guys that brought us from the ranks of III.7 to I.1 but their age and training progress has made them less impactful of players in a league as competitive as I.1. We've sold many good and long-time Gryphon players and welcomed many new young and promising players. Our latest efforts have been in energizing our blue line... going younger, faster and stronger. We've spent 21.5 million on three players that we hope will do just that. For the rest of the year, we are not planning anymore sales or buys. However, if the price is right we'll consider such purchases. With our latest purchase Chris Martindale finds himself on the way out with a successful transfer already negotiated and a deadline set for a weeks time to allow other bids to come forward" stated the new General Manager Antons Saltais.

The Gryphons will play their final league home game on Monday against the league leaders which will be fan appreciations night. All children will get in free provided they are accompanied by an adult. All fans will also receive a 10% off coupon for any merchandise in the Gryph Shops and a free appetizer from any of the Gryph Restaurants. Management has also stated that for the home games in the playoffs, the Gryphons will be sporting their gold third jerseys.
