Royal City Redshift - Gryph News - Vol 5 Issue 4: End of Another Season
Well Gryphon fans,
Another season has passed and with it a new season is upon us. Over the past season we have seen many changes to the franchise. Several players found themselves new teams and many new faces arrived. While our final position in the standings was not in the top-8 as originally hoped, we have worked some new and exciting faces into the mix and next season will be no different.
The Gryphons are going to be introducing some new faces into the lineup this season. Most notably, some new faces on the blue-line. With the departure of Gord Ferdinand, Gryphon management has promoted the young prospects Clench and Dryden from the youth squad. Both are highly potent defencemen.
"They are solid young kids. Hard working and have a knack for the powerplay. They have an absolute cannon from the point and we plan on using that to help with the new league improvements. They do need to improve on their defensive game - they know that. But as with all youngsters, that will come with time" said Head Coach Yves Mauge.
Outside of those two faces management isn't announcing much more new in terms of regular players, however, they have confirmed a reduction in role of some players paralleled by an increased role by others.
"You know, that's the thing with hockey. It's very much a team sport. Some players are getting new roles this season. Roles that may find them with increased or decreased ice time. All players are committed to the cause and you can bet given time the results will pan out" said Yves Mauge once again.
The Gryphons and their fans anxiously await the new schedule. The league is once again even more competitive and with a decrease in sponsor contributions due to the modern economy, once can expect to find a very interesting season upon the Guelph community.
Until next time, best wishes PPM friends and fans. Be sure to keep tabs on our other Guelph team, Ontario Alpha Particles in their quest for Champions' League and Canadian glory. There is never a shortage of sports excitement in this Canada's 2nd and Ontario's most romantic city (Amazon.com study).
