Royal City Redshift - Royal City Spectra - V3E7: Redshift Claim Second Straight II.4 Title
With two games remaining the Royal City Redshift have clinched the regular season title in Canada's II.4 division with a 6-3 victory over Blackhaw's. The victory gives the boys in red 96 points on the season clinching the title. Their main rivals, Incredible Foes, lost 3-2 at home to Drummondville but had they won they still could have done no better than second. The loss however would have opened up a tight race for second had Brutal Deluxe not dropped their decision today 4-2 to Les Dangereux.
In the final two games it is anticipated that the Reds will rest their big guns. Management had this to say:
"We are playing two clubs who are out of the playoff picture. If we rest some of our workhorses it won't impact the playoff outlook, which is what we had planned to avoid all season. We are left with the dilemma of when to run our two remaining training camps, but one bridge at a time."
The Reds will await the result of the final two games of the season to see who they'd play in the first round. The team would not comment on preference.
In other news, RCR management has been busy security veteran players for next season. "We will have a busy schedule next year. It'll be tough to balance the Cup Winners' Cup, League play and the National Cup. We have lots of youngsters but we fear if we go deep in the National Cup and the Cup Winners' Cup our league play would suffer. It is our hope that adding these veteran players will give us some roster insurance and provide the capability to field a competitive team no matter the competition. With the market as it is today, we are able to find highly experienced guys who can contribute without breaking the bank. I'm very pleased with our recent acquisitions and hope to secure a couple more before the day is over" said canucks357.
Management would not comment on potential transfers out. Sources say their position in the Cup Winners' Cup has halted any major transfers out as the team attempts to field the best club possible on the international stage.
