Bricktown TwigStarz - Starrz Collapse In Third
27.04.22
Bricktown
In what was the first of a series of rematches against the top teams in the division, the Starz shot out to a 4-0 first period lead, but couldn't hold on, eventually dropping a 5-4 OT decision to Weiser.
Anton Hillier, Deric Strachan, Dalton Falconbridge and Jonathan Marentette each tallied in the first, but one goal in the second, and a trio in the third meant it was all for not.
At 13:33 oft the third, Sheldon Bishop pulled Weiser within 2, then Augustin Renaud added another 21 seconds later, with Bishop talliying again to round off the comeback with one at 16:44
Bricktown was the better of the two sides through the final tally, but hockey can be a cruel sport, as OT proved, where, despite again outshooting their opponent, they came out on the wrong end. With 15 seconds left in the additional frame, Roger Gaughan, one of Weiser's top guns, banged in his own rebound off a breakaway to beat Caven and send the Starz faithful home with quite a sour taste in their mouths.
Not the end they deserved, but credit where credit is due, as this Weiser team never quit, showing the grit and determination you need to really be a top team in this league.
3 Stars:
III - Honore Howey (23 saves, 1.000 Sv%)
II - Johnathan Marentette (1G-1A +1)
1 - Sheldon Bishop (2G)
Attendance: 11 700
Next game: Friday @ Microbrasseurs
