Check Republic 94340 † - Sándor Munkácsi retires
Today, after Check Republic's win to secure promotion to I.1, Sándor Munkácsi announced his retirement. Munkácsi, 42, has served as the team's No. 2 left winger for nearly three full seasons.
"While I have enjoyed my time in America playing for Check Republic, it's time for me to move on to a new phase of my life," Munkácsi said, fighting back tears. "I will always cherish the times we had here, and love that I was able to be a part of promoting."
Munkácsi is third on the all-time list of Check Republic scoring with 111 goals and 103 assists for 214 points in just 98 regular-season games. During the playoffs, the longtime captain has been less impactful directly, scoring 16 points in 23 games.
However, any Check Republic player will tell you his impact far exceeds the score sheet. "We wish him the best going forward," team president Reverist said.
"I now look forward to the next phase of my life," Munkácsi smiled. His last game was the second of the promotion series to I.1, in which Check Republic won 3-2.
