Philadelphia Stars† - Stars squander 3-1 lead, lose 4-3
Going into Friday's game away against the Clovers, the Stars team had high hopes. They had won 4 in a row and had just come off of a 7-1 win at home.
The game did not start well for the Stars, as they failed to get a real offensive puch for much of the first period. At 16:06 in the first, Emery Williamson put the Clovers on top with his second goal of the season. During the first period, the Stars managed just 5 shots.
In the second, however, the Stars came out with more will to win. At 1;45 in the second, Nicholas Story scored a shorthanded goal off of a great pass from Scott Wegener, tying the game at one. later in the period, Kyle Farnsworth and Dennis Pemberton both scored to make it a 3-1 game in favor of the Stars after two.
In the third, however, the team would just break down. Just 11 seconds into the final frame, the Clovers scored during a delayed penalty call, cutting the deficit to just 1. At 16:20 in the third, Lee Flores would score to tie the game at three. With just 14 seconds left in regulation, Ken Fugate scored the game-winning goal.
After the game, Stars coach Clay Andrews was quoted as saying,"We had the game won in the third, and we just blew it. We have a good young team and with their inexperience, this stuff can happen sometimes will happen, even though it shouldn't happen. That's just how the game works. All I can do is my job, which is to coach these guys the best that I can and hope that it works."
Friday's loss dropped the Stars to fifth place. They will rebound on Monday versus the tenth place Chicago jets, who have won three of their last 4 games.
