This press release is a response to the press release of team Cleveland Intrepid†:
Intrepid Demoted, Light up League III. Coach replaced.
Cleveland Intrepid† - Another season, Another Cup!
Through what has truly been a tumultuous season the Intrepid found a way. The team was bankrupt and on the verge of dismantling half way through the season. Ownership changed. Staff member were fired, some weren't even replaced. Through it all the Intrepid had a record setting season and rolled through the playoffs and into a second Cup victory.
Head coach Bradley Barrett was barely an assistant to the assistant coach when the season started. Somehow, after two coaches were fired, he managed to guide the team to a championship.
"If you were to ask me at the beginning of the season where I'd be, I'd have said the third assistant," said coach Barrett. "But things have a way of working out." They sure do! With the team on the verge of collapse and banruptcy Barrett, somehow kept the team focused.
"He just told us to keep our eye on the prize," said the team's leading scorer, LW Devon "Suggy Bear" Suggs, who led the team with and unreal stat line (64+85 - 149pts). Suggs set team records for goals and total points. "It's easy when you have Deemers feeding you the puck," said Suggs. Speaking of the Captain, Kadeem Garvey broke his own record with 93 assists. (53+93 - 146pts).
Other highlights on the team included Archibaldo Volti's 63 goals and 146 pts from his second line center position.and Goalie, Leon Maas' unreal 1.03 GAA, .941 save % and 7 shutouts. Not to be outdone, rookie goalie Aiden Roxburgh, who split time with Maas earned 6 shutouts and a .912 save %, as well as a 1.25 GAA.
"If we stay in this league I can see a lot more Cups in our future," said star RW "Finney" Bergeinsson (58+79 - 137pts).
The playoffs were no different. The team rolled to a 6-0 record. Leading the way in scoring was Bergeinsson with 16 points (7+6). Goalie Leon Maas cruised to a Cup championship with an infinitesimal 0.83 GAA and and astronomical .957 save % to go along with his 3 shutouts.
After a season like this the Intrepid are likely to get promoted. Last season's disaster seems like a distant memory but it could come rushing back if the team hasn't improved enough to play in league II. Only time will tell.
